Does Anyone Know How To Host A Murder Mystery Party Without A Kit?

We are looking to host a party. The only things we can find are kits you have to pay for! Has anyone hosted one, know how, and can give us instructions?

Well if you come over and murder my creepo neighbor, I will definitely host a FREE party for you without a kit! lol, lol – just kidding
Here’s a link for one that includes instructions:http://www.carleton.edu/campus/library/r…
Hope this is what you need. Have fun (I’ve played these before from a box and they are fun).

Use a deck of playing cards. Pull out a joker (the murderer) a king or two (detectives–optional) and number cards appropriate to the remaining number of players. Explain the card designations, shuffle, and dole them out. Add various and sundry props as appropriate. Have fun!

What if you set it up kind of like Clue. You could name all your guests after the characters in the game, and type out instructions for each on. Have each person pick out a card at the beginner that tells them if they are the murderer or not and they also get cards like in the game. The person that gets the murderer card has to at some point in the night “kill” the victim (whisper in their ear, etc) when nobody will know who did it. Then you can play the game out like the board game. It would be cool if everybody dressed up for the era also. If you don’t want somebody to “die” and be out of the game, you could have a dummy and the murderer has to use the murder weapon on it at some point when nobody can see.
