I Would Like To Become A Host Family For A Foreign Exchange Student?

I would like to become a host family for an exchange student, but with the ecomomy like it is, is there any kind of compensation for host families? What would the best exchange student program to go through?

No compensation for hosting a student. You ARE paid for homestays though (google, “homestay,”).
If you’re worried about the economy, be advised that it is not cheap to host. Bigger grocery bills, gas money to take them to the mall since they will not have a car and perhaps no friends to ride with, also they should be encouraged to join a club or sport to better integrate with American teen culture. Can you pick them up afterward? DO think about these things before you commit to taking a student.
The orgs are all pretty much the same but they are only as good as your local rep. The reps are desperate in normal times to find host families but with the economy, the pressure is really on so be careful as you interview them. If you have problems, is the rep reliable? Is she only telling you how wonderful the experience is and never mentions any problems in all her years hosting? Keep in mind that THEY get paid for the students they place so don’t let them blow too much smoke up your skirt, LOL
Shop around for the right rep and then be picky about the student you choose. This is a human being who is going to live in your home. You don’t want a disruptive and disrespectful brat so read between the lines of the teen’s application. Take your time and don’t be coerced into taking the last student available.
But if you want a more mature person and compensation, look into homestays.

I am a mother who is looking for a wonderful family that would like to host my daughter for 4 months. I have experienced what it’s like to host a student. It can definitely be a win win experience when looking to learn a different culture.

My daughter will be studying at the University of Barcelona in September of 2010. She graduated with honors from Whitney Young HS, the #2 school in the state. She is very respectful, out going and self motivated to excel in all areas of life. She is an athlete and also holds a part time job. References available. After Barcelona, Danielle will attend Boston University’s School of Business.

Please contact me directly if you would like to explore this experience to host a student. I can pay a small amount to cover her food and other things. She will have her own to get around and back and forth to school.
My name is Karen. Please contact me at kdeGrasse@Jameson.com . Thank you.

Local Language School is looking for families who can provide Homestay for international students during July. This offers the students a great opportunity to spend their time with a local family and to improve their language skills while learning about our culture and customs.
This will be during the month of July 2011, we have various groups of students ranging from the ages of 12 to 20. They will be here for 3 to 7 night depending on the group. During the day they will be at school and we can provide the transportation to and from the homestay house.
Family will be compensated $25 per night per student for room and board.
If the family is able to provide transportation transportation to and from school they will be compensated an additional $10 per night per student

    Requirements:
Must be no more than a 20 minute drive from the Sports Arena area
provide 2 meals per day for the students(Breakfast and dinner)
have a furnished private room (at least a bed, a desk and a dresser) for 1 or 2 students ( families may host more than 2 students if additional rooms are available)
have a internet access, be willing to spend some time with the students on a daily basis.
English must be the primary language spoken at home

Please reply with your contact information(phone and e-mail) address, and how many students you would be interested in hosting.
